1.CLINT EASTWOOD-LIKE THE QUIET/LOUD APPROACH OF NIRVANA
AND THE PIXIES-EASTWOOD VEERS FROM BIG LONG SHOTS TO
EXTREME CLOSE-UPS THAT ALLWAYS END UP FOCUSING ON THE
EYE'S-EVENTS HAVE LONG BUILD UPS AND THEN ALL HELL BREAKS
LOOSE.
2.ALFRED HITCHCOCK-HITCHCOCK COINED THE TERM "MAGUFFIN"
WHICH IS THE THING THAT EVERYONE IS AFTER,BUT NOBODY
KNOWS WHAT IT IS.
3.INGMAR BERGMAN-COMPARED TO MOST AMERICAN FILMS
BERGMAN'S FILM'S ARE STARK,BRUTELY HONEST,AND OFTEN RAISE
BIG QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE.THIS QUEST FOR TRUTH IS OFTEN
MEET WITH ANSWERS THAT ARE AMBIVALANT AT BEST.IT'S
BERGMANS SOUL SEARCHING FOR MEANING THAT MAKE HIS
FILMS SO COMPELLING.
4.WERNER HERZOG-HAVING TO FILM IN THE MOST DANGEROUS
PLACES ON EARTH NEVER STOPPED HERZOG.TWO OF HIS BEST
FILMS WERE MADE DEEP IN THE AMAZON JUNGLE-"FITZCARALDO"
AND "AGUIRE,WRATH OF GOD"."FITZCARALDO" WAS HALF FINISHED
WHEN IT'S STAR-JASON ROBARDS BECAME ILL AND HAD TO LEAVE.
HERZOG RE-CAST KLAUS KINSKI AND STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN.
THE FILM TOOK 7 YEARS TO MAKE AND ABOUT FORTY LIFES
WERE LOST IN THE PROCESS.NOW THATS COMMITMANT!
5.FREDRICO FELLINI-FELLINI'S FILM'S ,ESPECIALLY THE TWO HE MADE
AT THE APEX OF HIS CAREER-"LA DOLCE VITA" AND "8 AND A HALF"
ARE CRAMMED WITH A SEEMINGLY ENDLESS CAST OF CHARACTORS
AND IMAGES.MARCELLO MASTRIANI IS THE LEAD ACTOR IN BOTH
FILMS AND HE SEEMS TO BE A SORT OF REPRESENTATIVE OF FELLINI.
HE IS ALLMOST NEVER ALONE.FELLINI WALLOWS IN THE DECADENCE
OF MODERN LIFE BUT IS AT THE SAME TIME IN COMPASSION WITH
IT'S LIMATATIONS AND ILLUSIONS AND THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO LIVE
WITH THEM.
6. ORSON WELLES-WELLES ,WITH HIS CAMERAMAN GREG TOLAND
PIONEERED THE USE OF DEEP FOCUS CAMERA'S -WHERE OBJECTS
FAR OFF IN THE DISTANCE ARE JUST AS SHARP AND CLEAR AS THOSE
IN THE FOREFRONT OF THE CAMERA FRAME.BY EXPIERIMENTING
AND USING THIER IMAGINATIONS WELLES AND TOLLAND LITERALLY
CAME UP WITH A WHOLE NEW LANGUAGE FOR FILM.THAT'S JUST ONE
OF MANY REASONS WHY WELLES "CITIZEN KANE" IS CONSIDERED TO
THE GREATIST FILM OF ALL TIME.
