SO LONG MICHAEL
By Pete Holly
FOR ME THE FUNNEST MUSIC OF MICHAEL JACKSON'S WILL ALLWAYS
BE THE EARLY JACKSON FIVE HITS.I LOVED THEM WHEN THEY CAME
OUT ,AND SEEING THE YOUNG MICHAEL JACKSON SING AND DANCE ON
TELEVISION ,WHICH HE DID MANY TIMES,WAS A REVELATION.HE WAS
THE COOLEST DANCER OF ALL-NO MATTER WHICH AGE GROUP YOU
INCLUDED.MICHAEL INTRODUCED A WHOLE NEW STYLE OF SINGING
AND DANCING THAT WOULD TRANSFORM THE WORLD OF MUSIC AND OF
DANCE.
THE SINGLE MOST TRANSFORMATIVE SONG OF HIS SOLO
CAREER WAS THE SONG "BILLIE JEAN" AND THE VIDEO.IT CREATED A
WHOLE NEW APPROACH TO VIDEO,TO SONG COMPOSITION,IN SONG
PRODUCTION {W/QUINCY JONES},AND THE BASS RIFF WAS SO INFECTOUS
AND HAD SUCH A COOL GROOVE THAT IT IS THE MOST COPIED AND
IMITATED BASS RIFF OF ALL-TIME.I WON'T MENTION ANY NAMES BUT
MORE THAN ONE BIGTIME ARTIST COPIED IT PRETTY MUCH NOTE FOR
NOTE AND JUST INSERTED A DIFFERANT VOCAL MELODY AND LYRICS;
BUT THE BASS RIFF IS STRAIGHT OUT OF "BILLIE JEAN".
FOR ALL MICHAEL'S TROUBLES-HIS INFLUENCE ON POPULAR MUSIC
AND POPULAR DANCE IS VAST-UNIVERSAL-AND THERE IS NO OTHER
SINGULAR ARTIST THAT HE IS COMPARABLE TO.IT'S FOR THAT THAT
HE WILL BE REMEMBERED AND LOVED.HE WILL BE MISSED FOR A LONG,
LONG TIME BUT HIS MUSIC AND HIS DANCE WILL LIVE ON FOREVER.
WITH LOVE
AND DEEP RESPECT,

Bio note-Michael mentions in an interview how he thought of writing a song about a girl
named "Bille Jean" one day then forgot about it. Three day's later he was driving down
Ventura Blvd. and the bass riff came to him-he imitates the riff perfectly with his mouth,
lips and vocal chords{i'm sure he showed to the bass player the same way}This is a
very Good Example of a musical idea that is not inspired by any previous artistic work
at all-as some people think all songs are-but is totally unique to Michael Jackson.
That many, including big stars of that time copied Michael's bass line is evidence
of just how influential Michael Jackson's music is.
